This is actually the very first plate I ever threw. I can't remember what clay this was, but I do remember that it was a very sandy clay because it was very rough to throw with. Almost all of my first pieces had a very sharp edge on the foot. I focused on making sure the foot was flat but didn't think about softening edges. The plate was dipped in celadon glaze.
I love how the rough and warm clay contrasts against the cool and glossy green glaze. I used this plate to cover a candle often to extinguish the fire, which is why you see smoke stain on the bottom.
