I love the ocean and sand profile of the glaze colors on this vase. This was not what I expected when glazing this piece so it was a pleasant surprise.
This was my first time using Long Beach modified clay and I decided to use a glaze combo I was familiar with. I dipped the bottom 2/3 in zap blue and the tp 2/3 with rutile pink. I expected the top portion of the vase where only rutile pink glaze lay on the clay to create a blue/orange-like result similar to what rutile pink does on Tuff Buff clay seen in Plate #2. I also expected the portion where rutile pink layered over zap blue to become a bright yet deep blue color. I was surprised when this came out and the top portion was a cream color with a pastel blue color below.
